Recognizing our spirit

Access to joy and being present exists in connection to source. Being able to recognize what is us versus something or someone else helps us to connect.

I recommend starting with exploring the unique expression that is “us”. Once we can recognize our own spirit, we have the delight in recognizing what feeds our spirit, and then we can move on to recognizing the spirit of those around us.

For some, you might have to extend your memory back to a time when you lived more instinctually (childhood) and granted yourself full freedom of expression.

Recognizing your own Spirit:
  1. Where in your life do you feel most like yourself?
  2. What hobbies or activities do you do where you are able to fully immerse yourself?
  3. What inspires you?
Recognizing what feeds your Spirit:
  1.  What experiences and activities leave you truly alive and nurtured?
  2. What around you delights you; surprises you; supports you in embracing life?
  3. What are you doing, seeing, saying, or experiencing when you feel most comfortable in your own skin?
Doing this exercise myself, here is what I learned.

My spirit is solid, warm, sensual, curious, and motherly (sometimes a little bossy).

What feeds my spirit:
music (playing it, listening to it, seeing it live), words (poetry, prose, great lyrics, books, movies), traveling to new places, laughter, learning new things, physical touch, dancing, drawing with pencil and pastel, digging in the dirt, growing things, spicy food that can be eaten with chopsticks, swimming in the ocean, singing, scenery that is a multi-sensory experience like the cliffs of Morher, County Clare, Ireland:

Your turn...
